President Donald J. Trump Signs S. 114 into Law

On Saturday, August 12, 2017, the President signed into law:

S. 114, the “VA Choice and Quality Employment Act of 2017,” which authorizes and appropriates $2.1 billion to the Veterans Choice Fund, extends certain authorities as a partial offset for this appropriation, authorizes 28 major medical facilities leases, and changes a number of VA authorities related to personnel.

President Donald J. Trump Signs H.R. 2210 and H.R. 3218 into Law

On Wednesday, August 16, 2017, the President signed into law:

H.R. 2210, which designates the community living center of the Department of Veterans Affairs in Butler Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, as the Sergeant Joseph George Kusick VA Community Living Center; and

H.R. 3218, the “Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational

Assistance Act of 2017,” which amends a number of authorities of the Department of Veterans Affairs related to:  (1) Post-9/11 GI Bill; (2) other educational programs; (3) administration of educational programs; (4) Reserve Component benefits; and (5) miscellaneous provisions.

On Friday, September 29, 2017, the President signed into law:

H.R. 3819, the “Department of Veterans Affairs Expiring Authorities Act of 2017,” which extends certain expiring authorities affecting veterans and their families, including: health care; benefits; homelessness; miscellaneous authorities; and makes a number of technical corrections; and

  1. 1866, the “Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria Education Relief Act of 2017,” which provides the Department of Education with administrative authority to assist institutions of higher education affected by, or enrolling students affected by, recent hurricanes and tropical storms under two campus-based financial aid programs, and to require a grant program to provide equitable services to children and teachers in private schools.

On Friday, March 9, 2018, the President signed into law:
H.R. 1725, which requires the VA to report on the progress of an initiative to improve processing of certain veterans’ claims for disability benefits;

H.R. 3122, the “Veterans Care Financial Protection Act of 2017,”
which requires the VA to publish on its Internet website a warning about certain financial and legal practices that could alter a veteran’s eligibility for benefits; and

H.R. 4533, which designates the health care system of the Department of Veterans Affairs in Lexington, Kentucky, as the Lexington VA Health Care System and makes certain other designations.
